Why Should I See a Chiropractor?

Some people are terrified of that popping and cracking, others swear by it... but what  IS Chiropractic?

The definition is: “Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine mostly concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine.”

Chiropractors use various forms of techniques and machines to achieve releases in the musculoskeletal system (muscle and bones). Some Chiropractors mainly use the adjustments of bones and joints to put the spine and other areas in alignment. Others use TENS units as well as ultrasound to stimulate the muscles for them to release to allow the adjustment to yield better results. I know some Chiropractors use Graston or Active Release techniques.

Many people don’t like the sound or are afraid of the doctor breaking their neck. A skilled doctor you can be sure of safety. Definitely disclose any information they require - like surgeries, breaks, etc. - as this can help them adjust how they approach working on you. It is very important to be upfront with your doctor. People who have osteoporosis, spinal cord compression, or inflammatory arthritis, or who take blood-thinning medications should not undergo spinal manipulation. In addition, patients with a history of cancer should first obtain clearance from their medical doctor before undergoing spinal manipulation.

What are some conditions that chiropractic can help with? Here are a few:

  • Blood Pressure

  • Scoliosis

  • Neck and Back Pain

  • Sciatica

  • Nervous System Issues

  • Headache Relief

  • Help with Neurological Conditions

  • Vertigo

  • Children’s Issues such as Colic, Reflux and Ear Infections

  • and many more...

I know chiropractic can seem scary and daunting at first, but I regularly get adjustments. Having a physical job, such as massage, and chiropractic has been absolutely helpful in keeping me going these last 5 years.
